Voting Criteria: Player's importance to the team in 2019, overall talent, and future potential for the upcoming season. A player's long-term/NFL prospects were not taken into consideration.
Voting Panel: Publisher Chris McLaughlin, Herdnation.com staffers Josh Stowers and Sean Hammond, plus the fan's vote.
20. Jaylon McClain-Sapp, CB, Jr.
2018 was a tough year for McClain-Sapp. The talented CB was sidelined for much of the year with nagging injuries and was never really able to contribute during conference play. The good news is that McClain-Sapp was technically able to red-shirt and save a year of eligibility, which is huge for the future because fellow CBs Chris Jackson and Kereon Merrell will both be graduating after the 2019 season.
19. Artie Henry, WR, Sr.
Opinions vary widely on how much Henry will contribute to the team's bottom line this year. The JUCO product caught 17 passes during his first year in the kelly green and white, which makes Henry Marshall's second leading returner at WR in terms of catches.
18. Tavante Beckett, LB, Jr.
It is no secret that Marshall lost a ton of production to graduation at the LB spot. Enter former Virginia Tech LB Tavante Beckett. Beckett was projected to see major minutes in Bud Foster's defense back in 2018 but off-the-field issues caused him to have to leave Blacksburg. Depth behind Beckett is extremely young and unproven so it is imperative he picks up Brad Lambert's defense quickly or MU could be in trouble.
17. Marquis Couch, DE, Sr.
Rarely does a multiple year starter entering his senior season get overlooked at a place like Marshall, but that is the case with Marquis Couch. The Miami native isn't flashy and is a bit undersized, but Couch is a key part of what DL Coach J.C. Price will want to accomplish with his front seven this year.
16. Darius Hodge, DE, So.
Hodge moved back and forth between DE and LB during the spring but it is very likely his permanent home will be at DE during the 2019 season unless injuries at the LB position dictate otherwise. Hodge has the natural raw ability to play on Sunday and flashes multiple times every game. Consistency is the key with him, however.
