NC RB Marcus Caldwell breaks down Marshall official visit

Much to the delight of Thundering Herd fans, highly regarded Winston-Salem native Marcus Caldwell officially visited Marshall this weekend. It was Caldwell's first official and the Marshall program left a rather large impression on the talented running back. Herdnation.com caught up with Marcus on his way back home to North Carolina.

"The visit was really great, I enjoyed it," Caldwell said. Tyler King was my host and he was able to tell me a lot about the school in general - both football and academics. Tyler said he really enjoys it up at Marshall."

"I also got to meet all of the coaches and the other recruits visiting. We took a tour of the campus, a tour around the city and we also all went to the basketball game. I really enjoyed the academic center and the football facilities," Caldwell told HN. Asked to rate his visit on a scale of 1-10, Caldwell said his time in Huntington was a "9."

Caldwell, whose lead recruiter is Cornell Brown, describes himself as a versatile all-purpose speed back. "I just love to run the football and I can catch the ball out of the backfield too," said Caldwell. I can also help in the return game"

Although Caldwell was not told who would be his offensive coordinator at Marshall, he did give some insight into what type of offense will be coming to Huntington: "They didn't give me a name of the OC but I do know it will be a coordinator with multiple schemes to fit the team's personnel."

As Marshall fans know, Caldwell was part of a major recruiting weekend for Doc Holliday and his staff and the weekend appeared to go well for everyone involved. "I hung out a lot with Kenny Wilkins and he enjoyed his visit. Everyone that was visiting seemed like they were."

Once upon a time Caldwell had a final five of Louisville, Va Tech, UNC, Tennessee and Purdue but his recruiting fell off a bit after he transferred to a new school for his senior season. "My senior year was just okay, I only played four games due to me transferring."

Asked if he had a favorite following his visit to Marshall, Caldwell told HN: "I don't really have any leaders right now. I'm not sure when I'll sign, I'm honestly still trying to find the best possible fit for me and my future. I can definitely see myself at Marshall, though. I love it there!"
