Marshall Football’s Nov. 4 matchup at App State will be a 6 p.m. kickoff on NFL Network, the Sun Belt Conference and ESPN announced on Monday afternoon.

The Sun Belt Conference and ESPN announced the time and television considerations for the game as part of the 12-day window agreement between the Sun Belt and its television contract with ESPN.

“We are grateful to the NFL Network for continuing to honor Marshall and our football program,” said Christian Spears, Marshall’s Director of Athletics. “We have some of the best student-athletes and coaches, and they know what we know that, regardless of our current record, we can be the best team in this league. If we play to our potential and our identity, we can still win this thing. That will be a big matchup in Boone!”

Monday’s announcement means that Marshall Football will be showcased in a nationally-televised linear broadcast for the seventh time in its first nine games of the 2023 season.

This matchup comes against a team that the Thundering Herd has plenty of history with, dating back to the Southern Conference days.

Next week’s meeting will serve as the 26th all-time meeting between the schools with App State holding a 15-10 advantage in the all-time series to this point.

The teams will be meeting for the fourth consecutive year – the first two as non-conference opponents and last year’s and this year’s as conference rivals once Marshall transitioned to the Sun Belt.

In the last three years, the home team has won each meeting. Marshall defeated No. 23 App State, 17-7, in 2020 at Joan C. Edwards Stadium before App State returned the favor by rallying for a 31-30 win in Boone in a nationally-televised Thursday night game on ESPN. Last year, Marshall earned a 28-20 win for Homecoming in Huntington.
