Marshall snags transfer WR from Oklahoma State

Marshall has landed a transfer wide receiver that is immediately eligible due to his walk-on status with his previous institution.

Obi Obialo, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound receiver, announced the decision recently to transfer to Doc Holliday’s program from Oklahoma State. Why did he make the choice? “The tradition of the program, and the support of it,” Obialo told HerdNation.com.

A couple of Marshall’s staff members took the lead in securing the Lonestar State product’s services. “Coach Dallas Baker and Deshawn Brown,” Obialo said. “They told me I’ll be able to come in and compete.”

A former two-star prospect out of Coppell High in Texas, Obialo held offers at one point from Arkansas State, Iowa, North Texas, Rice, and San Diego State and was getting looks from Baylor as well. However, a serious leg injury (dislocated ankle) midway through his senior season in 2015 led to those offers disappearing even as he committed to the Aztecs in December of that year. Obialo opted to become a preferred walk-on with the Cowboys in February of 2016.

Obialo turned heads a year ago as a potential contributor in 2016 but only appeared in four games with two catches for 11 yards as a freshman. He once again showed promise in the 2017 spring game with a 22-yard yard touchdown reception:

Obialo broke down his one and only goal that he hopes to achieve upon his arrival in Huntington: “Help the team get back to where they were a couple seasons ago,” he said.
