Martinsburg (WV) product planning summer visit to Marshall

Martinsburg (West Virginia) defensive end Tavis Lee has seen the recruiting process pick up for him in recent weeks.

“It’s been really good this year,” he recently told HerdNation.com. “Marshall offered me a scholarship. The UConn coaches are looking at me, WVU coaches are looking at me, and JMU.”

The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder has not yet hit the road hard to see several of the programs he has interest in, but he plans on doing so in the near future. In-state Marshall should be the recipient of one of those trips.

“I’ve only been to two schools, JMU, and WVU. Marshall’s kind of far. I have to take it soon so I will be going to visit them soon. “

What does Lee like about the Thundering Herd? He said that he’s been building a relationship with the coaching staff in Huntington and has already had a chance to be coached by the staff.

“I went up there for a one-day prospect camp last year and did the whole day. I liked the defensive drills, how they taught me how to line up,” he explained. “It got me a little faster and they gave me some hand movements to use to get past people. That’s why I really like that program.”

Lee said that at this stage, West Virginia and North Carolina stand out to him because he grew up with those as two of his favorite schools. As he goes through the process, he knows what he hopes to find in a college program.

“For me to fit into the defensive scheme and somewhere that’s not very far so my mom and my dad can come see me play,” he said.

As a junior, Lee tallied 114 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks.
