Ferris feels at home at Marshall

Somerset (Kentucky) Pulaski County lineman Zack Ferris is on the board with several offers, as well as interest from Power 5 schools, thus far in his recruiting process.

“I have six offers right now, Marshall being one of them,” he told HerdNation.com. “EKU, Austin Peay, Morehead, Murray State, and Georgetown College. I have big schools like Louisville and Kentucky looking at me. Miami of Ohio is looking at me to come down this week.”

The 6-foot-5, 310-pounder has already made the rounds to see a few programs in which there’s mutual interest.

“I’ve been up to Miami (Ohio). I got up there like a couple weeks after they built their new football facility, the weight room and locker room and stuff. I’ve been to EKU to watch their spring practice. I was planning on going to Austin Peay here in a couple weeks. I’ve been to Western a couple times; we played in there in the state championship.”

The most recent trip for the two-way lineman was to Huntington to get a closer look at Doc Holliday’s program.

“I was up at Marshall this past weekend. I really liked the coaches, personally. It just felt like home to me,” he said. “I felt like I was wanted there.”

While Ferris could end up playing defensive tackle or on the offensive line in college, Marshall views him as someone who best projects to the offensive side of the ball.

“I was talking to the director of player personnel there and he said it would definitely be the offensive line. They might need on the defensive line, I don’t know. Maybe down the road sometime. I’d say I’ll probably be on the interior, but I’ll play anywhere the coaches put me,” Ferris explained.

Offensive line coach Alex Mirabal is someone Ferris has been impressed by in their conversations.

“I don’t really know their offensive style, but I would like to play for them because the offensive line coach, I like him,” Ferris said. “He’s a really good coach, I know.”

Marshall appears to have a strong shot at this point with Ferris due to the fact that the Thundering Herd program checks one of the boxes he’s looking heavily at when weighing his options.

“Definitely Marshall,” he said when asked which programs stand out to him. “I’m going to look into if I feel like it’s home there.”
